At the age of 17, Richard C. Alston gave his Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center debut performing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1 in Bb minor, op. 23.

He advanced to receive both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from The Juilliard School of Music in New York City.

Richard is an adjunct professor at The University of West London: London College of Music. Professor Alston maintains a private piano studio coaching a select group of intermediate and advanced pianists.

Richard Alston's Classically Black is an award-winning lecture-concert series in which Professor Alston celebrates the life works of composers of African-American and African-European descent.
